In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable energy solutions, NHPC, India's premier hydropower company, has taken a giant leap by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), Government of Gujarat. The collaborative effort aims at materializing the 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project, a key player in the nation's clean and green energy future. The project, located in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, is set to receive an investment of approximately Rs. 4,000 crores from NHPC, solidifying their commitment to pioneering advancements in renewable energy.
The signing ceremony, held under the esteemed banner of "Vibrant Gujarat" at the Secretariat in Gandhinagar, witnessed the presence of influential figures, including Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and Energy Minister Shri Kanubhai Desai. The MoU signifies not only a strategic partnership but also a concerted effort to create employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy. By embracing pumped hydro storage projects, NHPC and the Government of Gujarat are aligning their efforts with the national objective of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and a "Net Zero" target by 2070, marking a significant milestone in India's green energy journey.
